I am thrilled to be appearing at three events at the 2018 Brisbane Writers Festival. The festival is being held 6–9 September in the Cultural precinct at South Bank, with events over the three days at the Queensland Art Gallery, the State Library of Queensland and GOMA.
Friday 7 September, QAG Lecture Theatre, 10am.
In conversation with Brisbane icon Jackie Ryan about her book We’ll Show the World. Among other things we’ll be chatting about the impact Expo 88 had on Brisbane (and the world), 80s nostalgia, 80s fashion, the chicken dance and more.
Friday 7 September, Cinema A GOMA, 4pm.
I’ll be in conversation with Zenobia Frost about my book, What Will Be Worn: a McWhirters story discussing the legacy of McWhirters on Brisbane, the patterns that repeat across generations, the ways in which mothers and daughters are bound together through the clothes they wear and more.
Saturday 8 September, Auditorium 2 State Library of Queensland, 12.15pm.
In conversation with author, publisher and vintage-clothing lover Kelly Doust about her latest novel Dressing the Dearloves. We will be talking about the various inspirations for this book, about five generations of women in the aristrocratic Dearlove family. Discussion points will include Kelly’s love of vintage wear, themes of success and failure, and some of the strange parallels between our two books.
I’m also looking forward to attending some of the other Brisbane Writers Festival events, including the opening address with Geoffrey Robertson QC, First Things First with Melissa Lucashenko, Professor Marcia Langton, Dr Sandra Phillips and others, and Michelle de Kretser talking about her Miles Franklin award-winning The Life to Come.
